Milkshakes of 2,000 Calories
We all eat and drink to excess while away on holiday and upon return home it's time to cut the calories and get back to 'normal' eating again. So if you like the occasional milkshakes, remember they can be fattening at the best of times. However, the latest 'freakshake' imported from Australia, involves a whole new level of indulgence. The drinks are served in pint-sized glass tankards, packed with milk, ice cream, chocolate and sugar, and coated in a variety of sauces. Then there are mounds of whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, cookies, brownies, pastries and pretzels balanced on (and often pouring over) the top.
The sticky treats come with a saucer to catch overflowing mixture as you suck it through a straw. The Great British Cupcakery in Newcastle is the first UK outlet serving the over-the-top beerages. their flavours include Canny Caramel, Cushty CookieDough, Choccy Road and Vanilla Thrilla varieties, all selling at £5 each.
The cafe refused to supply a calorie count, but foreign versions have exceeded 2,000 calories - an entire day's allowance for a women!
