Ponte Di Legno, Birmingham
I am always pleased to give a commendation to a restaurant that I like, but to have my testimonial highlighted on the home page of the eateries website is an honor indeed. This is the case with one of my favourite Italian restaurants in the UK - Ponte Di Legno in Moseley in Birmingham.
I have been frequenting Ponte Di Legno for a number of years now, taking friends and family to share in some of the best authentic Italian food outside Italia. If anyone suggests, 'Let's eat Italian', this is the first place that springs to mind. Hidden away from Moseley's thriving cafe culture, the place is relatively small and one has to book to guarantee a table for any night of the week. A bustling place of about 50 covers, the waiters dash about with steaming hot plates of fresh pasta, toppling pizzas and glorious platters of fish, bought that day from the market - large glistening sea bass, bright pink lobster and delicate monk fish, all carefully prepared and beautifully served. Yes, the place can be noisy, with tables close together and frequently found large tables of big families and hungry friends. It's so much like a popular family restaurant in Palermo or Naples.
Despite it's popularity, the staff treat everyone as 'special' - advising diners on the fish of the day or what to have with your linguine, meat balls, crab or prawns for example. They will provide a mix of pasta types or cater for that special diet. Nothing is too much trouble and for children dining, there is always that special flavoured gelato.
Pizzas at Ponte Di Legno are priced between £8 and £11, pasta dishes between £9 and £17 for a lobster pasta and fish between £16 and £35 for whole lobster with most around the £16 mark. Fish dishes include an accompaniment of vegetables. Antipasti dishes range from £4.50 for soup to £7.50 for Carpaccio. Desserts are £4.95.
If you are in Birmingham in the future then give Ponte Di Legno a try. You wont be disappointed!
