Just the Place for Valentine's Day?

February 14th is only two weeks away - thoughts then about what to do on Valentine's Day to keep your lover sweet. A bouquet of roses, chocolates or a romantic meal for two are all possibilities. What are you planning? For me, it's the latter this year, and the venue is already booked. However, if you're not as well organised as the Real Food Inspector, then a new Valentine's venue has just hit the headlines. Yes, you've guessed it - or have you? Gregg's the bakers is offering Valentine's Day four-course meals - including a glass of prosecco.

Thankfully, while Greggs 'special meal comes with roses, a candelabra, soft classical music and a glass of fizz, the sausage roll gets a 'bit' role. The high street chain's starter course does include a mini sausage roll among its 'composition of canapes', alongside steak and blue cheese en croute, katsu tortilla wraps, a Mexican chicken chipotle spoon, a bechamel toasted hone-cured ham square and tomato gazpacho. As for the main, there's a choice of Greggs puff pastry parcels or steak bake. They know how to treat you, don't they?

All the food will be baked to order, as you sit taking in the ambience of your local Greggs and its bakery surroundings. And there's more - the mains are accompanied by oven-roasted spiced potato wedges and a 'garnish of fresh Apollo and spinach leaves and sunblush tomatoes'. Haven't Greggs got a way with words? But no meal is complete without a dessert and petits fours and the high street baker does not disappoint. - a dessert of brochette of miniature doughnuts paired with a rich butterscotch dipping sauce and petits fours of dark chocolate brownies, raspberry and almond bites and caramel shortbread. Coffee to follow too!

If your taste buds are already working overtime, then a table for two will cost you only £15. The bad news (if you haven't already had enough?) is that you have to live in Stockwell in South London, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle or Cardiff, as only five Greggs shops are taking part in this special Valentine's Day initiative.

A night to remember? Don't order the divorce papers just yet!
